Packing for a family is really packing several lists at once - a baby's, the kids', and your own - and the forgotten items are rarely yours. This family packing list keeps all of them in one place, from diapers and comfort toys to the documents and medicine that turn a small crisis into a non-event.

Load it into PackParrot and delete the sections you don't need - if there's no baby along, the toddler category disappears in a tap. Keep separate lists per child if that's easier.

Adjust it for how long you're going

For young children, quantities matter more than variety: enough diapers and changes for the journey plus a buffer, then rely on laundry. For a week away, pack a few days of kids' outfits and plan a wash midway - children go through clothes fast, and hauling a fortnight's worth helps no one.

Adjust it for the weather

Kids feel temperature swings more than adults, so pack a warm layer even for a warm destination and sun protection even for a cool one. A compact rain cover for the stroller and rubber boots for puddles save many a ruined afternoon. You can also let PackParrot suggest changes from the forecast - enter your destination and dates and it adapts the list for you.

Easy to forget

Don't leave without:
  • A comfort toy or blanket (trip-ending if left behind)
  • Children's medication and a thermometer
  • Snacks and spill-proof cups for the journey
  • Swim diapers if there's water
  • A consent letter if travelling without both parents
  • Wet bags for dirty or wet clothes

Frequently asked questions

What should I pack for a family holiday?

Everything each family member needs, grouped so nothing slips through: baby and toddler gear, kids' clothing and entertainment, adult clothing, a shared health kit, documents and comfort items. The checklist above covers all of it - load it into PackParrot and remove sections you don't need.

How do I pack for kids without overpacking?

Pack a few days of outfits and plan a laundry stop rather than a fresh outfit for every day. Let older kids carry a small backpack of their own toys and snacks - it saves space and keeps them occupied.

What's the most important thing not to forget?

The comfort item - the specific toy or blanket a child sleeps with. It weighs nothing and prevents a trip-defining meltdown, so it's the first thing to check off.

Can I keep a separate list for each child?

Yes. PackParrot lets you keep multiple lists, so you can give each child their own and check them off independently.
